How to study for GATE:GATE Tips and GATE free online sample test

These are some tips for the preparation of GATE Exam.

First Collect these Things-
  • Previous Year question Papers
  • Sample Papers(Available On this site)
  • Some Good Guide books for Gate(Available On this site)
  • Some books helpful for prerequisite knowledge on the subject.(All important GATE books are on this site.)
  • All relevant books based on the subject.Divide the books in two parts-1.Fundamental and Basic Studies and 2.Problem Oriented.
Keep in contact with some people who have experienced giving GATE Exam and some experts for GATE.


  • Read the syllabus carefully and read the whole previous year question papers.It will be better if you first do the reading and then keep the syllabus and past papers with you while preparing.
  • Start from the first chapter.
  • Note down the important things like formulae,definitions,dimensions etc.
  • Think about various tricks to solve the problems and note them in a notes copy (make a notebook for GATE and write the formulae,definitions,dimensions etc. and the tricks for solving the problems).
  • Go for series of self tests for the chapters.Take others' help to conduct the tests.
  • Continue the self tests until getting a very good score.
